Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
At Woonona East Public School, we pride ourselves on our strong commitment to sport and fostering active lifestyles for all our students. We believe in the power of movement to inspire health, teamwork, and perseverance. Our students participate in a range of exciting sporting events, including Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country carnivals, and PSSA Gala Days, where they showcase their skills and sportsmanship.
We also offer a variety of specialized programs throughout the year, such as NRL, AFL, Basketball clinics, and Gymnastics, providing students with the opportunity to develop their athletic abilities under expert guidance.
In Term 4, we run our Alternative Sport program, offering students a fun and diverse range of activities, from Ten Pin Bowling, Swimming, and Surfing to Bike Riding, Park Games, and even engaging with the PCYC. This program is designed to give students the chance to try new sports, stay active, and enjoy movement in different ways.
At Woonona East, we’re passionate about creating an environment where every child can thrive physically, explore their interests, and develop a love for lifelong fitness.
At Woonona East Public School, we are committed to challenging and extending our high potential and gifted students. Our Enrichment classes offer opportunities for students to participate in competitions such as the Tournament of Minds, and we provide coaching and mentoring for debating, with students competing in local school events.
We also offer specialized programs to further support these learners. Selected Year 6 students attend the Woonona High School Enrichment Program weekly, while our Year 5 students participate in the High Potential and Gifted (HPAG) program, joining other gifted students from the Illawarra once a week for advanced learning experiences.
Through these programs, we strive to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and excellence, ensuring our students are well-supported to reach their full potential.
At Woonona East Public School, we celebrate creativity and provide a wide range of opportunities for students to explore the arts. Our school offers a vibrant arts program, with students participating in prestigious events such as Southern Stars and Wakakirri, where they can showcase their talents in dance, drama, and performance.
Students also have the chance to engage in school and local community art shows, where their creativity is displayed for all to admire. Our Drama Club fosters a love for theatre, while CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts) groups allow students to develop their skills in various artistic disciplines.
The school Choir is a popular choice for those with a passion for singing, and our End of Year Concert is a highlight, bringing together students from across the school for a memorable performance. At Woonona East, we believe in nurturing the creative potential of every student, encouraging self-expression, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
