Our principal and staff
Our school team is committed to every student’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging. We work together to create a supportive and inclusive school where every child is set up for success.
Welcome from our principal
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Woonona East Public School website. Whether you are a current family, a prospective parent or carer, or a member of our wider community, I am delighted to share with you the vibrant, nurturing and proudly inclusive environment that makes our school such a special place.
Woonona East Public School is located in beautiful Woonona, a coastal suburb north of Wollongong on Wadi Wadi Country, Dharawal land.
We acknowledge and pay our deepest respect to the Traditional Custodians of this land and we are proud to learn, play and grow together on Country each day. Our school currently has 202 students across eight classes from Kindergarten to Year 6. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of 15 teachers and eight School Learning and Support Officers who work tirelessly to support the individual needs of every child. With 33 Aboriginal students and 20 students who speak English as an additional language or dialect, our school community is enriched by its diversity. We maintain a strong and valued partnership with the Northern Illawarra Aboriginal Education Consultative Group to ensure our Aboriginal Education programs are culturally responsive, authentic and of the highest quality.
A hallmark of our school is the strong and supportive relationships we maintain with parents, carers and the broader community. Throughout the year, we proudly host a range of whole-school events that bring our community together and celebrate our shared achievements.
We offer high-quality, differentiated teaching and learning programs that cater to a wide range of abilities, interests and learning styles. In addition to engaging classroom experiences, our students enjoy a rich variety of extracurricular opportunities such as Tournament of Minds, debating, drama club, Wakakirri, band and choir. Our comprehensive Learning and Support Team carefully monitors student progress, ensuring that both intervention and enrichment programs are targeted and effective.
Above all, our passionate staff are committed to ensuring every child feels a strong sense of belonging in a safe, caring and nurturing environment. Supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of our students is just as important as helping them achieve their personalised academic goals. Our focus on educational innovation means our learners are well prepared for the ever-changing world around them.
Thank you for visiting our website. I encourage you to explore further to discover the wonderful opportunities that Woonona East Public School provides for every child. We look forward to continuing to learn, connect and grow together as a proud school community.
Warm regards,
