What we offer

Each school in NSW offers something slightly different depending on the community. Here's what we offer for you.

Yirran

At Woonona East Public School, we are proud to support and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through the Yirran Group. This dedicated group consists of 33 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who come together to learn, share and grow in their cultural knowledge.

Guided by the wisdom and leadership of Aunty Sharon, alongside Ms Lord, Mrs Thompson and Miss White, the Yirran Group meets every second Monday in Ngurra, a space that fosters connection, learning and community. Their sessions are filled with engaging activities that deepen their understanding of culture, history and traditions.

The Yirran Group’s mission extends beyond their own learning; they play a vital role in helping all students at Woonona East Public School increase their knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and history. Through storytelling, art, language and shared experiences, the group fosters inclusivity and understanding within our school community.

We are incredibly proud of the Yirran Group and the positive impact they have on our school. Their commitment to cultural learning and sharing strengthens our community and enriches our understanding of the rich heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Canteen

All canteens in NSW public schools must meet certain requirements. These include providing more healthy food and drink options – to make the healthy choice an easy choice for students. Visit Healthy school canteens to learn more.

WEPS Wellness Hut

Our school canteen operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during lunch and play. We greatly appreciate volunteers to assist in the canteen. For more information, please see our Wellness Hut Menu or contact the front office.

Uniforms

When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.

Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:

  • meets the requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation

  • includes items that are affordable, comfortable and made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics

  • is appropriate for the full range of school activities

  • is suitable for all body shapes.
